Since 1990 Theo Jansen has been very busy and occupied creating new masterpieces in the free forms of Life.
His creations are unique as they resemble animals, not only by their looks but also how they move. His pieces are created out of Plastic Yellow Tubes and are used as the mastic material of this new type of nature.
He considers his masterpieces to be skeletons which have the ability to walk on wind, therefore they have no desire for the consumption of food.
Theo Jansen has studied the different seasons in The Netherlands for a very long time, as he was aware of the fact that his skeletons had difficulties surviving the elements of the Dutch weather. He was afraid for the depressing weather such as storms and snow, as he wanted to tame his beast in order to set them free in herds on the beaches for them to finally live their own wild lives!
These "Animals" are known as "Strand Beest", which is translated from the dutch language as Beach Beast. The full name is Animaris Turgentia Vela 2, translated as the Sea Beast With Billowing Sails.
Witness it for yourself how Theo Jansens' Strandbeest walks with a low wind of 6-7 knots.
It spectacular to see how much devotion, time and effort Theo Jansen has put into his new creations of animals. The way the skeletons move looks very natural, as if it was a real living animal.
